Our client is a veterinary practice with a modern, purpose-built premises, offering practicality with excellent facilities and high standards of care for your pet. They are currently looking for a Practice Manager to be based in Lichfield, Staffordshire The administrator will be responsible to the partners, for the general running and management of the entire practice. The practice administrator holds a central role in ensuring an efficient delivery of our services to our clients. The manager will be expected to contribute to the development of practice policies and to be responsible for their implementation. The job will require an innovative person with good communication skills, who is able to operate efficiently in the busy sometimes pressured environment of a general veterinary practice. Knowledge of Health and Safety, HR and employment law together with a thorough understanding of PAYE and good computer skills, would be essential, along with a broad understanding of accounting procedures to trial balance. The ability to use and understand Sage 50 Payroll and Accounts packages is crucial. YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE : •) Monitor all aspects of health and safety; ensure that the COSHH regulations are enforced, and that practice rules regarding safety are observed by all staff. •) Liaise with the responsible partner (GR equine, IT small animal) on all questions relating to the employment of lay staff including recruitment of new staff. •) Work towards the practice becoming an investor in people. •) Arrange for nurse training, and assessment with the Practice training provider. •) Maintain practice status as a nurse-training centre, and ensure we comply with the appropriate standards. •) Regularly monitor the condition of all practice properties, and arrange minor repair work promptly as required. •) Ensure that the premises continue to meet the required standards for a Veterinary Hospital, equine practice, core practice and advise the partners of any required modifications. •) Spend at least two half days per week at the Equine Clinic. •) Assist with maintaining the Practice web site and keep the Practice facebook page and the Vets’ Live TV system (main hospital and Burntwood Surgery) updated regularly with news/offers etc. Monitoring and maintaining the Practice Webshop. •) Assist the Accounts department in the end of month procedures and the processing of accounts. Ensure that accounts have been sent within the first week of the month. •) Deal in the first instances with complaints from clients, and ensure that these are resolved during no more than one working day or a 'holding' explanation offered. •) Make sure that the Pet Passport scheme is operating efficiently and liaise with the responsible partner (AE). •) Support the head nurse in the provision of puppy parties, weight watchers clinics, and other nurse organised activities. Place emphasis on further developing these areas as a profit centre for the practice. Continuing Professional Development. • Be a member of the Practice Managers’ Association; consider working towards a certificate in practice management. • Attend courses as may be necessary to keep up to date with Health and Safety, Employment Law and other relevant subjects. • Arrange for vets and nurses to attend courses as agreed by the responsible partners (GR and AE). • Keep a record of all members of staffs’ CPD (PDP) and ensure that staff return copies of certificates of attendance at CPD events prior to any new funding for future ones. DEFRA *) In the first instance deal with enquiries regarding the import / export of animals, and liaise with the local DEFRA office. *) Liaise with the responsible partners (RS Equine, AE small animal) concerning official veterinary surgeon work. *) Organise OV registration and training for new vets where necessary.
