Zinnfiguren are miniature figures of toy soldiers that are generally made of tin, pewter, metals, lead or plastic. Dioramas, the elaborate scale models of battle scenes, are created for their display. Zinnfiguren were originally almost two-dimensional figures, often called "flats" or "little Eilerts". The first mass-produced zinnfiguren was made in Germany as a tribute to Frederick the Great during the 18th century by Johann Gottfried Hilpert and his brother Johann Georg Hilpert.
